What is the Industrial Internet?

2020-11-17

Industrial Internet, as the name suggests, is the networking of industries. The service object of the Industrial Internet is industry, and the Internet is the underlying infrastructure. Its essence is based on the network interconnection of machines, raw materials, control systems, information systems, products, and people, achieving intelligent control, operational optimization, and transformation of production organization methods through deep perception, real-time transmission and exchange, rapid calculation and processing, and advanced modeling and analysis of industrial data.

To put it simply, the Internet we usually use is the consumer Internet, mainly for mass consumption, making daily life more convenient. The Industrial Internet, however, connects a company's production equipment, raw materials, etc., primarily to improve production efficiency and reduce production costs.

For example, an automaker plans a brake pad recall. Traditionally, this involves tracing the source of the problem through various software, checking inventory through production management and inventory management systems, and reviewing in-service and sold vehicles through sales and after-sales systems to summarize and analyze the total recall quantity, brake pad replacement scheduling and delivery time, and overall recall costs. If this company has access to the Industrial Internet, this process becomes much simpler. Just build an industrial APP for the recall scenario, and call the industrial microservice components of R&D, production, logistics, inventory management, sales, and after-sales according to the logical relationship, and everything related to the recall will be clear at a glance. It's like using apps on our smartphones to enjoy various professional services.
