The United States has clearly put forward three core technologies and innovation trends for sensor intelligence.

2020-11-17

1. MEMS process technology. Continuous iteration and innovation in miniaturization, low power consumption, low cost, multi-material composite, multi-parameter fusion, large-scale integrated process technology and equipment, micron and submicron high-precision control technology, and flexible production process technology.

2. Wireless networking technology. Adapting to the promotion and application of various Internet of Things (sensor network) technologies, innovation in wireless networked sensor products and technologies under industrial Internet, artificial intelligence technology, mobile intelligent terminals, and 5G technology standards. Using mobile (mobile phones, cars, ships, aircraft, etc.) or fixed objects (machine tools, buildings, shopping malls, homes, mountains and forests, etc.) as platforms and intelligent nodes for installing and applying sensors, realizing embedded, multi-functional composite and integration, modular architecture, and networked interface collaborative innovation to meet the needs of intelligent and unmanned management and control of all objects.

3. Micro-energy harvesting technology. The power supply problem has always been a major obstacle to the promotion and application of sensor intelligent nodes in indoor and outdoor use, especially in outdoor environments. Focusing on the collection and acquisition of micro-energy such as wind energy, light energy, and electromagnetic energy in nature, known as "micro-energy capture technology," providing energy for sensors will become another direction for future technological innovation.

From the perspective of the development of the US sensor industry, several characteristics are presented: First, efforts are made in common basic technologies, focusing on the application of new technologies and new processes, and continuously improving quality. Second, emphasis is placed on sensor networking, intelligent node technology, energy capture technology, and collaborative innovation. Third, there is a shadow of government control, support, funding, and promotion of core technologies. Fourth, the leading and driving effect of key promoted application fields is obvious, such as military industry, equipment manufacturing, logistics, ecological environment monitoring (forest fire prevention), mobile medical care, and smart homes.
